have hit the nail right on the head to use yet another cliche. the fundamental difference between the afghan forces that we spent over a decade. rag bag taliban is at that time taliban believe in what they are fighting for. they are fighting for their faith and for all sorts of other reasons too. primarily on a jihad. we expect the afghan army and police to fight for harmid karzai. >> it's not that simple though. the taliban is so brutal and the afghan people don't like them. maybe you fight against the taliban rather than for karzai. i will give colonel hunt the last word on it? >> you can the problem is insurgency. 7 to 10 years to fight. this hasn't been fought well. not just a political disaster for obama. a military because many of our four star generals did not know what they were doing. the report produced by our own military shows it didn't work and it's more than time to go because we are spending so many billions -- we also lost 988 guys since the thing started. since the start. >> bill: not good news in afghanistan. we hope the french can handle the al qaeda in mali. on dem

kind of incidents happen, it's very chaotic. there's a great fog of war to use a cliche. but what you have at least on capitol hill is a group of critics of secretary clinton trying to get very very black and white answers for a situation that is far from black and white. it's very mirky. my own feeling is that nothing new came out from that hearing. but what the constant attacks on hillary clinton from republicans tells me that republicans see her as a threat, political threat in 2016 and they are trying to bang up her image as much as they can going into that. and i'm sure that the clip of hillary clinton saying what difference does it make where she gets angry at one of the republican senators will probably become part of a political ad. >> there's much to ask you. i'm trying to get to the bulk of this. secretary clinton said the state department is in the process of putting out or implementing 29 recommendations to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again. is there a way to protect people who take on jobs like this in foreign countries especially the middle east? >> a

the 1970s and it has become a journalistic clichÉ. a few years ago andrew jenkins subtitle this book intrepid explorers of the red planet. now the book is about the scientists passion for mars, but in his poetic graphic the intrepid explorers are the spacecraft. over the past decade, the clicÉe became a conceptually, somewhat confused debate in the space exploration community between the advocates of science, meaning robotic spacecraft and the advocates of exploration, meaning human spaceflight. this was a debate about the control for money. but a genuine question remains about the relative roles of people and robots as the distances beyond mars make daily reprogramming more and more typical in the robots become more able to identify what is worth studying. some have summarized an economy as human explorers versus robot explorers. at a stanford university symposium i attended in 2008 called humans and robots in exploration, one topic was quoted to us as, when does the human become the tool of choice for solar system exploration? by this phrasing, people and robots are those tools an
